Want to disable NETGEAR Configuration Assistant (Welcome Screen / Hijack Screen)?

Issue:
You are redirected to the NETGEAR welcome screen (Configuration Assistant) every time you launch your browser.
Cause:
  1. Configuration assistant of the router is enabled
  2. The browser may also be trying to detect a proxy server on the LAN.
Steps to disable the NETGEAR configuration assistant.
  1. Launch the URL: www.routerlogin.com to acess the welcome screen of the router 


  1. If you are using Internet Explorer , Go to Tools menu and click on Internet options.
    • Turn off any pop up blocker
    • Delete Cookies and temporary internet files
    • Under Temporary Internet Files click Settings and Select Every Visit to the Page
    • Click on Connection and Ensure that “Never dial a connection” is selected
    • Go to LAN settings and uncheck all the options
    • Go to Programs and Reset Web settings
    • Go to Advanced and Restore Default 
  2. From a wired computer (connected by an ethernet cable to the router), open Internet Explorer and go to the URL: www.routerlogin.com/CA_HiddenPage.htm 
  3. This URL will prompt us either to Enable or Disable the configuration assistant  

  1. Click Disable Configuration Assistant and apply the settings.
     The NETGEAR Welcome screen should not come up and you should be able to use your browser properly.
